Spec’ing an LS swap for a Chevrolet C10

An LS in a C10 is not exotic anymore. Doing it so the truck drives, cools, and steers is still a shop job.

Decide these first

  • Year of truck. 60–66, 67–72, and 73–87 do not share the same engine bay problems.
  • Oil pan and crossmember. This pair decides whether the engine sits where it should or fights the steering.
  • Transmission. 4L60/65/80, 6L80, or a manual — each changes the tunnel, mounts, and shifter.
  • Fuel and cooling. Return vs returnless, radiator size, electric fans that actually pull air through a C10 core support.
  • Wiring. A clean harness and a plan for gauges beat a pile of relays hidden in the glovebox.

What we will not skip

Clearance for the oil pan. Driveshaft angles after the truck is at ride height — especially on air. Exhaust that does not toast the cab. A pedal box and steering shaft that still work after the motor is in.

If you already bought a “universal” swap kit, send photos before you weld mounts. We build LS C10s in-house and sell the crossmember package we actually use.
